Greene County Libertarian Party Supports Springfield Financial Audit For immediate release: Wednesday, August 1, 2007 The August 2nd state audit of the Springfield Municipal Court is the first step in getting a better financial picture of the city's health, according to new chief audit petitioner, Tom Martz. "While this is not the audit set into motion by our petition, it is one step closer to getting answers about the city of Springfield as a whole", Martz said. The audit petition was started some time before the news of the missing Court funds became public. Former Greene County Libertarian Party member, Doug Burlison, was chief petitioner of the petition effort; he stepped down as chief petitioner after being elected to City Council. GCLP Chairman, Keith Rodgers, said of the upcoming report "The wait [for the final audit reports] will be worth the effort. A lot of people will be rewarded for their efforts, with the knowledge gained of how the city of Springfield handles financial and business practices. This upcoming report, while not triggered by our petition, is only the first step in getting the whole picture." The state auditors' report on the Municipal Court will be released August 2nd, 7 PM, in the Springfield City Council chambers, 830 N. Boonville.
