FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Missouri Libertarian Party Elects New Officers At May 5th State Convention St Louis, MO -- May 14, 2007 -- The Missouri Libertarian party elected new officers at the state committee meeting held May 5th during the state convention. Glenn Nielsen of Columbia was elected Chair. Mr. Nielsen has been active in the party for seven years, has served as webmaster for five years and has been very active working on local issues in Boone County Missouri. "I would like to thank party members for the confidence they have shown in my abilities to lead the party over the next two years.", said Missouri LP Chair Glenn Nielsen. Darla Maloney of St. Charles was elected Vice Chair. Ms. Maloney is the outgoing Chair of the Missouri Libertarian Party and will continue the great work she has done with local grass roots politics in the St. Louis area. Praising Maloney's work with activist groups on efforts such as fighting the abuse of eminent domain and pushing back against smoking bans, Nielsen stated "Darla has been among the most effective Chairs in our party's history when it comes to reaching out to local organizations that share our belief in limiting the intrusion of government. I am thrilled that she has agreed to stay in our party's leadership." John Schultz of Columbia was elected Secretary. Mr. Schultz is Chair of the Boone County Libertarian Party and has been very active in local Boone County issues the last several years. Randy Langkraehr of Warrensburg was elected Treasurer. Mr. Langkraehr has been active in the Party for many years and is an accountant with twenty three years experience. Michael Peters of St. Louis has been appointed as Campus Coordinator. Mr. Peters is a recent graduate of the State University of New York, New Paltz, where he was active in college political organizations. In other business, the state committee passed a resolution authorizing the formation of a strategic planning committee. This special committee will develop a detailed plan to improve communications, improve business operations and plan activities to help grow the Party. Libertarians have become more active in local and statewide issues over the last two years. Libertarians have been organizing opposition to smoking bans and forced an audit of city finances in Springfield. We have been building relationships with single issue organizations fighting eminent domain, trying to stop the national animal identification system (NAIS) and protecting Second Amendment rights in Missouri. All of this hard work is starting to pay off at the ballot box. Missouri Libertarians won three of five local elections in April. Doug Burlison was elected to the Springfield City Council. Mike Ferguson was elected to the Jackson County Public Water Supply District #1, Sub-district 2 and Joel Stoner was elected as an Alderman in Macks Creek. They join Mike Bozarth who was elected to the St. Joseph City Council in 2006. "I am excited by the opportunities Libertarians in Missouri have over the next few years to work towards more personal liberty, economic freedom and property rights.", said Missouri LP Chair Glenn Nielsen. The Missouri Libertarian Party is one of three established political parties in the State of Missouri and is affiliated with The Libertarian Party. |
